"He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, 'He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.'" Psalm 91:1-2
What a wonderful promise from God's Word that He is always with us. No matter what we face in this life we can be assured that God knows our situation and He is never far from us. The Psalmist expresses a confidence which does not rest in anything this world has to offer. How many times are we tempted to take refuge in temporal things? We try to fill a void in our lives with possessions or accomplishments. But in truth our fortress is our God, who has redeemed us by sending His only Son Jesus Christ to be our Savior.
When we are connected to Jesus, then we are fulfilled. If our life is missing anything, it can only be filled by looking to the heavens and the promises that God gives us in His Word. The Psalmist continues to assure us of God's promises to always hear, always heal and always help:
"He will call upon me and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, and I will deliver him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him and show him My salvation." Psalm 91:15-16
